Hospice of Santa Barbara seeks to help bring death to life with a Before I Die Wall.
With the support of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA), this global art project will be on display at the Museum (1130 State St, Santa Barbara), from October 15th through October 23rd, outside the Family Resource Center (1st floor of the SBMA). The museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, closed on Mondays.
Talk about a conversation starter . . . this interactive wall is a community art installation where anyone walking by could pick up a piece of chalk, reflect on what is most important to them, and share their personal aspirations in a public space.
It is a unique, collective expression of living our mortality out loud and communal proof that we are not alone as we try to make sense of our lives and our deaths.
Since artist Candy Chang painted the first Before I Die wall on the side of an abandoned house in her neighborhood in New Orleans, over 1,000 Before I Die walls have been created in over 35 languages and over 70 countries, including Kazakhstan, Iraq, Haiti, China, Ukraine, Portugal, Japan, Denmark, Argentina, and South Africa.
