Listos Train-the-Trainer Course Emergency preparadness course Nov. 8 & 9, 2016

The California Fire Services Training Institute (FSTI), in partnership with the Aware and Prepare Initiative, the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and California Volunteers, will be holding the first-ever delivery of the Listos Train-the-Trainer course in English.  This class will be held on November 8-9 at the Santa Barbara Foundation located on 1111 Chapala Street Suite 200, Santa Barbara CA.  This 2-day course will cover the Listos Basic Training curriculum, as well as, Train-the-Trainer and Program Manager.

About Listos

Listos is an 8 hour conversation based preparedness training.  The word Listos means “Ready” in Spanish.  Listos was developed in Santa Barbara County as an Aware and Prepare project funded by the Orfalea Foundation, as an outreach program for Spanish speaking populations.  Listos has since expanded to the following counties:  San Francisco, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego.  The program has received grant funding from Cal OES, support from CaliforniaVolunteers, and is now administered by the California Fire Services Training Institute (FSTI).    Due to effectiveness of the program Cal OES requested for the program to be translated into English.

Geared toward reaching population demographics that are not prone to taking classroom based preparedness training, the goal of this program is to provide very basic resources for emergency readiness in an environment which they feel comfortable within. LISTOS is modeled after various programs including a Spanish-language community readiness program Promotores hosted in Carpinteria and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) curriculum with a grass-roots approach at reaching the Latino population through trusted networks.  Preparedness Topics covered during Listos training include:

  • Identifying Vulnerabilities
  • Creating Reunification and Communication plan
  • Important Document Back-Up
  • Utilities Shut-Off
  • Fire Extinguisher Use
  • Disaster Medicine
  • Team Organization
  • Disaster Psychology

There is no fee or pre-requisites to attend this training. Space is limited so please send back the attached registration form ASAP.
